Day 38

A Prayerful Attitude

by Mary Beth Scott

Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:15)

As a child, I envisioned prayer as praying on my knees, beside my bed, with my eyes shut. Although that is surely one way to pray, in this verse I think the Lord is calling us to change our mindset. As Christians, we have the opportunity to be in open communication with the Creator, always. That means we have the advantage to come to Christ anytime, anywhere, with anything.

When I consider praying for the lost it can be a bit overwhelming. Are we talking about the lost souls overseas, the lost we see on the news or read about in newspapers, or the lost that may be sitting at our Christmas dinner table this year?

Praying continuously for the lost can happen at any time. Praying for the souls who have never heard the name Jesus is surely important. As well as praying for the wayward family member that you love so deeply that has stepped away from their faith. What a sweet blessing from our Father that no matter the time we are able to have access to pray for these people. Find it comforting to know that the Lord hears our prayers and He will answer them in His way and in His timing.

When praying for the lost, be expectant that the Lord is going to answer, and be ready to act when He calls you to be a part of His plan.

Questions to Ponder: How often do you pray for the lost? Who are the lost people in your life that you feel the Lord is calling you to pray for? What is the Lord calling you to do for the lost?

Prayer: Father, open my eyes to the lost people. Help me to see each individual through the lens of Christ and give me Your love for them. Use me, Father, in reaching the loss. I am your vessel. Show me where You are working and allow me to be apart of Your great plan. Thank You for the love You pour out on Your people daily. Help me to use Your love, in reaching the lost. Amen.
